CO2 emissions secreted by humans are likely to be a cause of climate change. But long after the damage that humans can cause, there is an inevitability that life on earth will disappear thanks to the increase in the heat from the sun which will increase the water vapor of oceans to a degree that makes the earth even hotter and uninhabitable. H2O levels in the air are more dangerously warming than CO2. A simulation by The Laboratory for Dynamic Meteorology in Paris published in the journal Nature suggests that we have at least a billion years before this death event happens. But how long do CO2 emissions themselves cause dangerous global warming?

“Greenhouse gas levels are so high primarily because humans have released them into the air by burning fossil fuels. The gases absorb solar energy and keep heat close to Earth’s surface, rather than letting it escape into space. That trapping of heat is known as the greenhouse effect. “ — Cristina Nunez for National Geographic

Global CO2 emissions of fossil fuels and land use will reach 102 tons by 2050, double that of 2010.

The Case for Algeria and countries of the Mediterranean

In a 2013 study, Algeria’s temperature was expected to rise by 1degrees in 2020 and 2 degrees in 2050. 2 degrees temperature rise may be the point of no return when it comes to climate change according to scientists. Now, Algeria.

Algeria witnessed devastating fires in August 2021 with several human and material casualties and they may have partly been because of climate change, as the Mediterranian area was deemed a “climate change hotspot”, like the fires happening in Turkey and Greece.

When does CO2 affect us?

The earth will take a long time until it becomes dead like Venus. Currently, the earth radiates heat back to space, instead of exclusively trapping heat in surfaces and oceans. So the only way that life on earth will disappear because of CO2 is when there is a runaway greenhouse effect, when the atmosphere is so thick as to trap heat on the planet and not be able to release to space. This is when the earth becomes Venus.

Scientists believe that CO2 levels will hit 500ppm in 50 years, when the temperature will increase by 3 degrees celsius and endanger global food supplies.
